Welcome to STU! To help make your transition easier, we have answered some of the most frequently asked questions students have about starting at STU.
If you’re looking for some help while out and about on campus, look for the ASK ME ABOUT STU posters and buttons to identify a faculty/staff who can help you.
GENERAL
When and where do I pick up my student ID card (UCard)?
Your UCard is your official Student ID. All new students are encouraged to upload their photo for their  by August 25 to ensure their card will be ready for pick-up when they arrive.  If you live in residence, your UCard will be available at the check-in desk at your residence during move-in day. If you are an off-campus student, pick up your UCard at the STUdent Help Desk in Sir James Dunn Hall.
 
NOTE: When picking up your UCard, please bring a government issued photo ID for confirmation.
 
Where can I get a parking pass?
The STU HotSpot Parking Permits are available for purchase through STU’s . When logging in, select “STU” as your city.
 
Where can I get a STUgenda?
The St. Thomas University Students’ Union (STUSU) has printed a limited number of physical copies of this year’s STUgenda available to interested students. You can pick up your copy of the STUgenda from the STUdent Help Desk in Sir James Dunn Hall during Welcome Week.
How can I request a campus tour?
Campus tours that highlight your classrooms and services available to you will be included in Welcome Week. If you’d like to book a comprehensive campus tour personalized to you before you arrive, visit  Current students will be your guides and can answer any questions you have about being a student at STU.
 
WELCOME WEEK
Where can I find out about Welcome Week events?
The official Welcome Week schedule of events can be found online here. You can also stop by the STUdent Help Desk located on the main floor of Sir James Dunn Hall for a paper copy of the schedule.
When and where do I pick up my Welcome Week Kit?
All first-year students receive a Welcome Week Kit containing STU swag and other cool items! They are available for pick-up at the STUdent Help Desk, located on the main floor of Sir James Dunn Hall.
When picking up your Welcome Week Kit, please bring your UCard for confirmation.
Is there an international student orientation?
International Student Orientation will take place from Thursday, August 28 to Saturday, August 30. Find the schedule for day one and day two .
 
What are the dedicated supports for Indigenous students starting at STU?
In addition to having access to all student supports and services on campus, Indigenous students may benefit from engaging with the Wabanaki Centre and Indigenous Student Services, both located on the second floor of Sir James Dunn Hall.
, and don’t hesitate to reach out. They can’t wait to meet returning and incoming Indigenous students.
The team will also be hosting a Mawiyamok-Gathering on Friday, September 5. The day will include sacred fire teachings, drumming, and traditional craft demonstrations. Students are also welcome to try some frybread tacos for lunch!
Is there an orientation for students with accessibility needs?
Yes! is a pre-welcome week event taking place Thursday, August 28 and Friday August 29 and is designed for new students living with a disability or mental health diagnosis. For more information, please contact Student Accessibility Services at accessibility@stu.ca or 506-453-7207.
ACADEMIC
Where can I find my class schedule?
Your class schedule is available on . Log in using your STU credentials linked on the Next Steps page of your applicant portal, which can be found ! There, you will be able to find your course schedule for the first and second semester. When logging in, be sure to use your five-letter username without @stu.ca at the end!
 
Who do I talk to about course selection?
For help with course selection, you should see an academic advisor. They are located in the Registrar’s Office, on the first floor of George Martin Hall, Room 101.
 
Where and when do I purchase textbooks?
The Campus Bookstore is located on the main floor of the UNB Student Union Building, 21 Pacey Drive. You can also buy used textbooks from upper-year students online by requesting to join the “” Facebook page. It is recommended that you wait to attend the first day of classes before purchasing your textbooks.
 
Who do I talk to if I have accessibility needs?
For questions or concerns related to accessibility, please connect with . They are located on the first floor of George Martin Hall, Room 104 and Room 306. You can also email them at accessibility@stu.ca.
 
Is there a computer lab I can use? Where can I print something?
Yes! There is a computer lab on the top floor of Sir James Dunn Hall. You are able to print in black and white and colour at this computer lab using  .
Please note you will be given $5.00 (50 pages) of free print credits at the start of every academic year. Once you exhaust your free print credits, you will be able to purchase more at .
There are additional computers and printers in the Dr. Daniel O’Brien Study Hall in Margaret Norrie McCain Hall.
You may also print from your personal device using the same webprint website if you are connected to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network.
 
I don’t know any of my passwords. How do I get them?
If you forget your network password but have access to your STU email, you can reset your password at
 
If you forget your password and cannot access your STU email, you will need to go to the ITS Helpdesk on the top floor of Sir James Dunn Hall, room 207.
 
FINANCIAL
How and when should I pay tuition and fees?
The university accepts cash, cheques, money orders, debit cards, and online banking. Most students pay through Learn more about this and other payment options at .
Students must arrange their payment by September 12 with the . They are located on the first floor of George Martin Hall, room 103.
 
I need to pay my tuition and fees late. How do I do that?
For late payments, you will need to speak with the before September 12 and fill out a request for late payment form. They are located on the first floor of George Martin Hall, room 103.
 
Who do I talk to about scholarships/bursaries?
If you have questions about the application of your scholarship or bursary on your account, see the Admissions Office (admissions@stu.ca), located in Donald C. Duffie Hall.
 
Where can I find a bank machine?
There is a Bank of Montreal ATM located on the main floor of Sir James Dunn Hall, near the STUdent Help Desk.
 
How do I purchase a meal plan?
- Residence Students
If you are living in Harrington Hall, Vanier Hall, or Holy Cross House, you were automatically signed up for a meal plan when you selected your room. If you are living on Windsor Street and want to purchase a meal plan, please e-mail the Residence Life Office at residencelife@stu.ca - Off-Campus Students A meal plan is not required to eat at the George Martin Hall Dining Hall. Anyone can purchase individual meals when entering the dining hall for an all-you-care-to eat meal.

How do I get a student job?
To apply for both on-campus and off-campus student jobs, visit the portal, by logging in with your STU credentials. You can also speak with the Career Development Advisor, Erin Feicht (efeicht@stu.ca). Her office is located on the third floor of George Martin Hall, Room 302.

Can I participate in Welcome Week if I don’t live on campus?
Yes! First year, off-campus students can participate in every Welcome Week event, including those on Move-in Day, besides move in itself.

Who should I talk to about my residence-related questions?
You can ask questions to any of your in-house staff (residence advisors and/or residence coordinator), or you can get in contact with your Residence Life team via email at residencelife@stu.ca.
STUDENT LIFE
How do I get involved with clubs and societies?
There will be a Clubs and Societies Fair during Welcome Week on Wednesday, September 3 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on the main floor of Sir James Dunn Hall.

How do I get involved with Campus Ministry?
Mass is celebrated at the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel located on the second floor of Holy Cross House every Sunday at 7:00 PM. All are welcome to attend. Aside from attending Mass, there are plenty of ways to get involved with our Campus Ministry and the Food Bank. Follow this link to get connected to the team!
 
How do I get involved with STU Tommies Athletics?
If you are looking to become a varsity athlete and play for the STU Tommies, please fill out the online recruitment form !

Term Descriptions
Welcome Week: Welcome Week is an annual experience for St. Thomas University’s incoming class, designed to help new students gain familiarity with campus and have a positive transition to student life. This first week is comprised of many fun events organized to encourage school/house pride as well as give first-year students the opportunity to connect with peers.
Dry Week: Welcome Week is a dry week, which means there is an alcohol and cannabis ban that applies to all students, regardless of their age or year of study.
St. Thomas University Students’ Union (STUSU): A democratically elected body, whose mission is to effectively represent and provide services to the students of St. Thomas University.
